One of the conundrums of modern life is the amount of choice we have. Endless data, information and facts are available instantaneously 24/7 via our keyboards, tablets and phones. Want to know something - then just Google it! Learning at your fingertips. However all this choice and information can be paralysing.
One of the most courageous things you can do is identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go. - Sheila Murray Bethel.
Unfortunately, however, we can't Google our own personal direction map. GoogleMaps might be able to tell us the intricacies of getting from Newcastle to Sydney but can they tell us how to get our career from where it is today to where we want to be?
The first step in understanding your direction is to know yourself. Complete an honest inventory of your strengths and weaknesses and what might be holding you back. The more you understand yourself, the better you can understand what motivates you, which will help you filter all that choice out there down to specific actions that can lead to a satisfying career or a business that achieves its goals.
I live my own life through a deep understanding of what my personal values are and check my actions and my life regularly against those values. Knowing myself and what is important to me gives me a checklist against which I can plot my path and ensure that my actions are taking me towards my stated goals.
I see my clients benefit from this approach as well. If you need help finding direction - either career coaching in Newcastle for yourself, I offer coaching services in the Newcastle and Hunter valley area. Give me a call on 0400 429 811 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll help you work through the overwhelming choices that are out there today.
